How to video evaluation

Evaluation for How to video

When approaching this how to video I came up with a few ideas for what to make and see which would stick and which would not. One idea that I had which I decided not to do was “how to solve a maths equation”, this came about because I enjoy maths and have some knowledge and could explain how to answer a question. However I realised that it would not be practical for a video as it would not have me doing much rather than just writing down my working out and some narration, so it would be less appealing as a viewer to watch that.  So I decided to change to my other idea which was “how to do football skills” which would be a more practical video to produce. So I began to storyboard my concept for the video, so when shooting I would be prepared on the day. Once completing the storyboard I began to plan my shoot and where it would take place so I looked at a few locations and my best option was a park as I would have more space and a frame of a goal to use for one of the skills I was going to do.

A weakness of was some of the angles I used for the skills part of my video as I only had one from the front and one from the side, so to improve the video I could have more camera angles to make clear the action I was doing. Another weakness I had was the editing as I had quite quick transitions between scenes and you have to make sure the audience is following the video. A strength of the video is the intro as it sets the tone for the video. Another Strength was the different skills on show as I show as I many as I could whilst making sure they were explained. I showed some peers my video and I got their opinions, one said that the intro captivated them and made them chuckle a little which was my aim as in the video it is me getting tackled as I created a build-up. Another strength they said was that had scenarios for failing a skill so it can help them understand how to do a trick right.

What I would do differently next time is planning my location more in advance as I wold have preferred having a goal with nets so for my shooting skills it would have been an improvement visually. Another element I would done differently was having more actors involved so I could show more if the skills however the video was only limited to around minutes. Something else I would have wanted to improve is the cinematography as some of my shots that were filmed on the day could have been shot a higher quality but I did not have someone else behind the camera who is knowledgeable in filming and I was the main subject of the how to video. So I would have asked someone else to help with filming from my class. To make it more professional visually was to have an aim on certain parts of the shot while blurring the background which is common technique used for filming. Another element to improve the image is changing the tint or colour of the clip in post-production which would add a style to it, I did some for my video as I added more saturation which helped add more quality to the image. To have processional sound you would need to use better sound equipment for example if you have narration you would use a microphone, another element to improve the sound could be adjusting the levels in post-production so the levels would be adjusted so it is all clear. It would not fully compare to a commercially produced video as it would be longer than a commercial video and there is a more variety of camera angles as there is use of multi-camera compared to my video where I only had one camera. Also a professional video would be aimed at a specific different audience while mine is more aimed at general football fans who want to learn skills or someone who has barely played and wants to learn more about skills and see someone else show them.
